Only Once

I was involved in a conversation with a young man who told me, “I’ll try anything at least once”.  What a foolish saying!  Upon hearing this, I repeated to myself, “anything”.  What about crack.  What about aids.  What about drinking and driving.  Anything. I thought.  My dears, with some things, sometimes, all it takes is once.  Once to become addicted.  Once to take a life.  Once for your life to be taken.
